Anderson Tile Sales
Founded by Roy E. Anderson in 1973
Founded by Roy E. Anderson in 1973, Anderson Tile Sales is one of the oldest flooring suppliers in West Texas. High School sweethearts, Roy and Shirley married in 1954 and moved from the cotton farms of North Texas where they were raised. Making their way the "Petroleum Promised Lands" of West Texas , in 1957 they settled down in Midland where they raised five children.
With the strong work ethic of their parents, Roy worked as a tile installer and Shirley obtained her nursing degree. An entrepreneur at heart, Roy opened Anderson Tile Sales in Midland in 1973. Seven years later Shirley joined him in his endeavor. Over the years they opened three more locations; Odessa, San Angelo, and Abilene. Family owned and operated, Anderson Tile Sales continues to serve West Texans with their tile and flooring needs.
A New Beginning
Black Lion Tile Supply
A NEW GENERATION AND A NEW NAME
Grandson to Roy & Shirley Anderson, Joe Dan Kendrick started working at Anderson Tile Sales when he was 12 years old. From sweeping the warehouse, to managing multiple branches he has gained the experience necessary to be a successful owner.
After high school he earned an Associates Degree in Computer Drafting in California, then a Bachelor’s Degree from Hardin-Simmons University. While studying at HSU he served as a bi-vocational minister, and developed a passion for missions.
While on a mission trip in 2012 he was inspired to change his business model to include giving to the people of Ethiopia. He has returned five times since to work with the Ethiopian Addis Kidan Baptist Association, and Heart for Ethiopia Ministries. After purchasing the Abilene branch from his family in 2018 He decided to change the name to Black Lion Tile Supply to serve as a reminder that the new company exists to create a profit for something greater than just a paycheck.
